Understanding Ratio Charts
What are ratio charts?
Ratio charts show the relative performance of one asset against another. Instead of showing price in USD, they show how many units of the second asset one unit of the first asset can buy.
Why use them?
They filter out general market movements and show true relative strength. If both BTC and Gold rise 10%, the BTC/Gold ratio stays flat - telling you neither outperformed.
Key ratios to watch
- BTC Dominance - Overall crypto market structure
- ETH/BTC - Alt season indicator
- BTC/Gold - Digital vs traditional store of value
- BTC/S&P500 - Crypto vs traditional risk assets
Trading tip
Use ratio breakouts to time rotations. When ETH/BTC breaks out, it often signals the start of an alt season where altcoins outperform Bitcoin.
